Cyprus Defense Minister announces Tseri firing range closure

Cyprus Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas has announced that the process to close the Tseri firing range has begun, though a specific timeline has not yet been established.

Regarding the Kalo Chorio firing range, Palmas stated that despite local residents' demands to relocate the facility, it cannot be moved at this stage. He addressed concerns following the discovery of two unexploded projectiles during a fire suppression operation in Agia Anna, noting that while citizen anxiety is understandable, finding unexploded ordnance is not uncommon in firing ranges. To improve safety, the Ministry aims to ensure all projectiles are identified and destroyed after exercises and has implemented 24-hour surveillance at the Kalo Chorio site.

Additionally, the Cyprus Council of Ministers is expected to decide on the leadership of the National Guard. The decision will determine whether the current Deputy Chief, Lieutenant General Neofytos Pachoulidis, remains in his position or if one of two Greek-Cypriot Major Generals, Charis Georgiou or Andreas Charalambous, will be appointed.
