Overview

Following a fire on July 27 during a joint training exercise with U.S. forces at the Vuda firing range near Larnaca, Cyprus, Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas issued a public apology to local residents. In response to ongoing safety concerns and local demands, the Ministry has begun the process of closing the Tseri firing range. While the Kalo Chorio facility cannot be moved at this time, the Ministry has implemented 24-hour surveillance at the site following the discovery of unexploded projectiles during fire suppression operations in Agia Anna. The Ministry stated it aims to ensure all projectiles are identified and destroyed after exercises to mitigate citizen anxiety.
