Energy developments in Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean are shifting regional security. In Romania, the Neptun Deep offshore project, developed by OMV Petrom and Romgaz, is set to begin production in 2027. In Moldova, Energocom Trading has secured gas supplies for Termoelectrica through April 2027. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan warned that gas tariff increases for Moldovan households may be unavoidable due to rising international market prices, though the government is exploring ways to mitigate the impact on vulnerable citizens.

In the Mediterranean, TotalEnergies and Eni have decided to exploit the Cronos gas field near Cyprus. This $2 billion project aims to deliver gas to Europe starting in 2028, utilizing infrastructure in Egypt to process and liquefy the gas for maritime transport. This development is seen as a key step in diversifying Europe's energy sources amid ongoing geopolitical instability.
