Cyprus Government Spokesperson reaffirms reunification goal at memorial

Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis reaffirmed the Republic of Cyprus's commitment to a free and reunified country during a memorial service for the five heroes of Letymbou. Addressing the community, Letymbiotis emphasized that the sacrifices of the local heroes serve as a "compass for unity" and a call for national vigilance.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, Letymbiotis stated that "time does not legitimize the facts established by the invasion, nor will it conceal the pursuit of partition." He noted that the recent involvement of the UN Secretary-General and the appointment of a Personal Envoy offer a clear prospect for returning to the essence of negotiations, based on UN Security Council resolutions and existing frameworks.

He further highlighted the importance of increased European Union involvement, noting that the political connection between EU-Turkey relations and progress on the Cyprus problem creates a new diplomatic reality. Letymbiotis underscored that the government continues to strengthen its position diplomatically, economically, and defensively to achieve a solution without occupying troops or outdated guarantees.
