Cyprus launches investigation after man's death raises concerns over emergency‑service delays in Ammochostos

A man in the Ammochostos district of Cyprus died on 1 July after losing consciousness. His daughter alleges that the family made one call to the 112 emergency number and three calls to the ambulance service, but that the response was delayed by more than 30 minutes. She says the patient was transported in a private vehicle to meet the ambulance and questions the recorded time of death and a prior visit to the Accident and Emergency Department.

The Organism of State Health Services (OKYPU) has opened a full investigation to verify the sequence of events, examine call‑log histories, assess actions taken by the 112 centre in Nicosia and the regional ambulance service, and review any earlier hospital admission. The police are also examining the cause of death. No formal complaint from the family has been filed yet, and the inquiry remains ongoing.
