Cyprus leaders to meet August 26 to discuss UN border proposals

Greek Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman are scheduled to meet on August 26 to discuss the Cyprus problem. Preparations for this meeting have begun, with negotiators from both sides expected to convene this week to facilitate the dialogue.

A central focus of the upcoming discussions is a proposal from UN Secretary-General António Guterres regarding the opening of new border crossing points. Specifically, the proposal includes the simultaneous opening of crossing points at Mia Milia (Haspolat) and Athienu (Kiracıköy).

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that Christodoulides intends to approach the meeting with a “constructive attitude” to achieve progress. While the Turkish Cypriot side has expressed commitment to finding a solution, officials noted that meaningful results depend on both sides agreeing on the fundamental nature of the problem.
