Cyprus Minister approves 40% student transport fee increase

Minister of Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu announced that the government has accepted most demands from student transportation providers, including Kar-İş and the Cyprus Turkish Public Transport Union (KTTTB). To ensure the sustainability of the sector, the government approved a 40 percent increase in transportation fees.

While most terms were met, the Minister stated that a request for a 5 percent interest rate on potentially delayed payments was rejected, as it does not align with current state practices. Additionally, a protocol has been prepared for escorts, providing payment equivalent to the gross minimum wage for five days at eight hours per day.

Despite the Ministry being ready to sign the protocol, transportation representatives have not yet provided a response. Consequently, student transportation services will not resume immediately and are expected to start on Tuesday, extending the current disruption to students.
