Cyprus Minister Kostas Fytiris launches rapid motorway incident plan

Justice Minister Kostas Fytiris announced a new rapid‑intervention plan for handling serious traffic incidents on Cyprus motorways, prompted by a multi‑hour jam after a truck overturned on the Nicosia‑Limassol highway.

The protocol calls for immediate coordination of police, the Civil Defence and other relevant services, a checklist of actions, and the use of the CyAlert system to inform drivers of closures and alternate routes. It also includes provisions for contracts with private firms to accelerate vehicle removal and road cleaning when state resources are insufficient.
