Cyprus negotiations face uncertainty over upcoming UN conference

Cyprus government spokesman Konstantinos Letimbiotis said no information has been provided about a second five‑party conference on the island, adding that the United Nations Secretary‑General and his personal envoy, Maria Angela Holguin, are expected to meet in late July or early August to prepare the next multilateral talks. Letimbiotis noted that Holguin would travel from New York to Brussels and then to Cyprus to discuss the next steps, urging all parties to show the same willingness to restart negotiations.

A separate report highlighted a leaked plan involving land‑for‑constitutional‑rights exchanges between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. Turkish Cypriot President Erhürman confirmed the existence of the preparation but denied any official document, while analysts linked the possible outcome to the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara and a prospective 5+1 Cyprus meeting that could be shaped by NATO decisions.
