Cyprus' northern “foreign ministry” rejects two‑track property talks

The self‑described foreign ministry of the Turkish‑occupied part of Cyprus issued a statement saying there is “no point in negotiations based on two measures and two tracks.” It criticised the Republic of Cyprus government for turning property disputes into criminal matters and for using mechanisms such as the European Arrest Warrant and INTERPOL instead of the legal channels recognised by the European Court of Human Rights. The ministry said this approach pressures local and foreign residents, investors and threatens the economic well‑being and security of the Turkish‑Cypriot community. The statement also dismissed the “historic opportunity” cited by UN Secretary‑General António Guterres and his personal envoy Maria Angelou Oligin Quijar as insincere.
