Cyprus Parliament revises asset declarations after data error
The Cyprus Parliament has temporarily withdrawn and re-uploaded the 'Pothen Esches' (asset declarations) of its members following a significant error. The initial publication inadvertently included sensitive information that is not legally permitted for public disclosure, such as personal data belonging to spouses and minor children, as well as specific details submitted to the Tax Commissioner intended for internal audit purposes only.
While the law requires officials to declare assets for themselves, their spouses, and minor children, not all submitted details are meant for public viewing. The public versions typically exclude reconciliation statements and granular data used by tax authorities to verify changes in wealth.
Discrepancies have also been noted in how assets are recorded, with some declarations including household items like furniture and appliances while others do not. Additionally, certain real estate values appear as zero in cases of inheritance or donations, meaning the reported net wealth may not always reflect full commercial market values.
Based on the released data, Giorgos Papobiridis reported the highest net wealth at approximately €3.37 million, followed by Christiana Erotokritou with roughly €1.25 million and Foteini Tsiridou with approximately €997,000.
