Cyprus police alert public to phone scams using automated voice prompts

The Cyprus Police have received a new wave of complaints about telephone scams that claim to be from a financial transaction and payment platform. The perpetrators use Cyprus telephone numbers that are unrelated to the alleged caller and employ automated voice prompts to instruct victims to press specific keypad numbers, ostensibly to confirm or approve transactions. The goal of the fraud is to capture personal data and divert money from victims' bank accounts.

Police advise citizens to treat such calls as fraudulent, to verify any pending online transactions through official channels, and to avoid confirming anything via phone prompts. They stress the importance of checking the authenticity of calls or messages before completing any payment or transaction.
