Cyprus police arrest 10 and check hundreds of drivers in nationwide crackdown

Cyprus police carried out coordinated patrols across the island overnight, targeting crime hotspots and aiming to prevent serious offences while boosting public safety. The operations resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals on charges including illegal drug possession, unlawful residence in the Republic of Cyprus and public disorder.

During the same period, authorities stopped and inspected 728 drivers and 305 passengers, carried out 64 undercover checks, recorded 227 traffic violations and opened 13 investigations into road offences. Among the violations, 105 drivers were cited for exceeding speed limits, 15 vehicles were seized, 314 breath‑alcohol tests were performed with 19 failures, and two drivers tested positive for narcotics.

Police said the intensified presence and targeted checks aim to deter criminal activity, maintain public order and increase citizens’ sense of security.
