Cyprus police arrest dozens during coordinated night‑time crackdown
The Cyprus Police carried out extensive night‑time patrols across urban areas, targeting serious crime and traffic violations. In one operation, 12 people were arrested for offences including public intoxication, drug possession, illegal weapon possession and theft, while 383 drivers and 175 passengers were stopped. In a parallel sweep, 13 individuals were detained for crimes such as vehicle arson, drug trafficking, knife attacks and document fraud, with 680 drivers and 227 passengers checked.
Combined traffic checks yielded 339 traffic violation reports, 89 of which involved speeding, and 165 alcohol tests produced six positive results. Police also seized nine vehicles and seized additional illegal items. The operations are described as part of a continued effort to prevent criminal activity, maintain public order and increase citizens' sense of safety.
