Cyprus police arrest eight in international murder plot

Cypriot authorities have arrested eight individuals in connection with an international plot to murder British twins visiting the island. The investigation, conducted by a special unit in cooperation with Europol, was triggered after Danish authorities alerted Cyprus regarding a planned assassination for hire.

Recent operations in the Paphos district led to the arrest of five Swedish nationals, aged 21 to 28, after they were intercepted in a vehicle. Police seized a pistol, two knives, masks, gloves, and several mobile phones. A subsequent search of their residence uncovered 1,400 US dollars, documents, and various notes.

Earlier in the week, two Norwegian nationals and one Irish national were detained in Larnaca and Famagusta. The plot reportedly involved hiring an undercover Danish police officer as a hitman, who was to be paid 650,000 Danish kroner via the Signal app. The group had allegedly arranged travel and weaponry for the operation.
