Cyprus police arrest five suspects after attacks on officers
During the night, Cyprus police detained five men in the Nicosia and Ammochostos districts for offenses including assault on police officers and resisting lawful arrest. In Nicosia, officers from the Lydra Sub‑Station apprehended an 18‑year‑old and a 22‑year‑old after a pursuit and a disturbance; both attacked the officers during the arrest. In Ammochostos, the Crime Prevention Unit intervened in a nighttime altercation at a club, arresting two men aged 22 and 24 while three police officers were injured and taken to the general hospital for first‑aid before being released. A separate incident in the same district saw a 19‑year‑old, intoxicated, arrested after assaulting two officers on patrol. The detained individuals are expected to appear before court for bail orders.
Police officials stressed that assaults on officers undermine public order and will be dealt with firmly, reaffirming support for law‑enforcement personnel operating under hazardous conditions.
