Cyprus police conduct extensive night‑time vehicle and checkpoint checks

The Cyprus Police carried out coordinated night patrols across the island, targeting urban areas to deter serious crime and maintain public order. In one operation, officers stopped 370 vehicles and checked 498 occupants, resulting in nine arrests for offenses such as illegal firearm possession, drug trafficking, theft and property crimes. The same sweep generated 188 traffic‑related complaints, including 101 cases of speeding.

A separate night‑time effort saw 573 drivers and 143 passengers inspected, alongside 37 checkpoint inspections. Ten people were detained for crimes ranging from illegal possession of property and drugs to assault on an officer. Police recorded 283 traffic complaints, with 93 speed‑limit violations, seized six vehicles and conducted 91 alcohol‑related tests, finding two positive results. The combined operations aimed to increase citizens' sense of safety and enforce law and order throughout Cyprus.
