Cyprus police conduct large‑scale night traffic checks and make multiple arrests

The Cyprus Police carried out organized night‑time patrols across the island, targeting key urban areas to prevent serious crime and maintain public order. During the operations more than 500 vehicles were stopped and over 600 drivers and passengers were checked. Parallel sub‑station inspections generated a handful of complaints, while traffic checks resulted in hundreds of violations, including over 90 cases of speeding. Alcohol testing was performed on more than 100 drivers, with ten positive results, and preliminary drug tests identified two positive outcomes. Police also seized a number of vehicles and detained five to six individuals for offenses such as illegal drug possession, drunkenness, assault with a knife, threats, and other public‑order violations.

These actions are part of an ongoing effort by the police to increase visibility, conduct targeted inspections and respond quickly to maintain safety for citizens.
