Cyprus police conduct nationwide night checks, arrest 15 people
The Cyprus Police carried out intensive night‑time patrols across the island, targeting key urban areas to deter crime and boost public safety. During the operation 571 vehicles were stopped and 769 occupants were examined. Police also performed 47 checks on premises, resulting in five complaints, and conducted traffic‑related inspections that generated 387 citations, including 129 for speeding and 41 investigations into traffic offences.
Fifteen individuals were arrested for offenses such as theft, illegal residence, public intoxication, assault with a knife, illegal possession of weapons and drugs. Thirteen vehicles were impounded. Alcohol testing was applied to 113 drivers, producing 15 violations, and two preliminary drug tests returned positive results. Authorities say the heightened presence and targeted checks will continue to enhance security and order.
