Cyprus Police conduct nationwide operations and drug seizures
The Cyprus Police conducted extensive nationwide operations aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order, and increasing public safety. These organized patrols across urban areas resulted in numerous arrests and significant seizures.
In broad enforcement actions, police arrested multiple individuals for various offenses, including robbery, assault, drug possession, illegal residence, and attacks against officers. Traffic enforcement efforts led to hundreds of citations, primarily for speeding, and the impounding of several vehicles. Alcohol and drug testing during these stops resulted in additional legal proceedings.
Specific drug enforcement operations by the Drug Enforcement Unit (YKAN) led to significant narcotics seizures. In Nicosia, a 33-year-old was detained after police found over two kilograms of cannabis and 266 grams of cocaine in a residence. In Limassol, a 21-year-old was arrested following a vehicle stop that uncovered cannabis, cocaine, and cash. Additional arrests for drug possession occurred in Larnaca, Ayia Napa, and Paphos. Since the beginning of the year, the Drug Enforcement Unit has seized a total of 323 kilograms of cannabis and 81 kilograms of cocaine.
