Cyprus police crackdown arrests 12 in nationwide sweep

Police carried out an intensive night‑time operation across Cyprus, deploying organised patrols in key urban areas to prevent serious crimes and maintain public order. The raids led to the arrest of 12 individuals on charges that include drug possession, assault and knife attacks.

During the operation officers stopped 559 vehicles and checked 753 drivers and passengers. Parallel checks of 56 suspected illegal migrants resulted in 16 complaints. Traffic inspections uncovered 361 violations, 149 of which were for excessive speed. Alcohol testing was performed on 147 drivers, with 14 testing positive, while nine preliminary drug tests yielded five positive results. Twelve vehicles were seized as part of the action.
