Cyprus police investigate missing body from Nicosia morgue

Police in Cyprus have launched an investigation after a body belonging to a British national went missing from the Nicosia General Hospital morgue. The deceased had been transferred from Paphos to Nicosia because the Paphos Hospital morgue has been out of operation for several months.

A funeral director from Paphos discovered the body was missing from its expected location when attempting to collect it for repatriation to the United Kingdom. Preliminary investigations suggest there was no official record of the body being moved to another location. Consequently, the Nicosia Police Directorate has taken over the investigation to determine if the body was moved by staff without following proper procedures.

The incident highlights ongoing issues with medical infrastructure in Cyprus, as morgues in Limassol, Paphos, and other districts have faced operational failures, forcing the police to centralize body transfers in Nicosia.
