Cyprus police night patrols result in nine arrests

The Cyprus Police carried out coordinated night‑time patrols across the island, focusing on high‑risk urban areas to prevent serious crime and maintain public order. During these operations, officers stopped 666 vehicles and checked 810 occupants. They also carried out 83 checks of illegal occupants, resulting in 28 complaints.

The patrols led to the arrest of nine individuals on charges that included attempted property damage with explosives, illegal possession of drugs and property, riding a stolen motorcycle, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal residence, and outstanding court fines. In a related earlier report, six people were arrested in similar preventive actions.

Traffic enforcement was a major component: 371 traffic‑related complaints were recorded, among them 118 for speeding, 27 for driving under the influence of alcohol, and three for driving under the influence of drugs. Police conducted 263 alcohol tests and eight drug tests on drivers, and seized 20 vehicles as part of the operations.
