Cyprus police night patrols lead to nine arrests and more than 500 traffic violation reports
Police carried out coordinated night patrols across Cyprus, targeting urban hotspots to prevent serious crime and maintain public order. The operations resulted in the arrest of nine individuals for offenses including illegal drug possession, traffic violations and illegal residence. About 1,096 vehicles were stopped and roughly 1,383 drivers and passengers were checked.
A total of 548 traffic‑related complaints were recorded, among them 155 for excessive speed. Alcohol testing was conducted in 551 cases, with 37 drivers testing positive, while preliminary drug tests yielded five positive results. Police also seized 33 vehicles and carried out sub‑statutory checks that generated a small number of additional complaints.
These ongoing policing measures are intended to enhance safety and deter criminal activity throughout the island.
