Cyprus police open new probe into journalist Makarios Drousiotis over personal data breach claims
The Cyprus Police are investigating a complaint that personal data of a complainant may have been breached in connection with references in the journalist Makarios Drousiotis's book "State Mafia". The investigation is being handled by the Police Headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department and is described as independent from a separate case concerning the anti‑corruption authority's report.
Police communications officer Michalis Michael said the complaint was lodged recently, that the probe is in its early stages and that some statements have already been taken, but no further details can be released. Drousiotis announced on X that the police had opened a second criminal case against him, characterising the move as intimidation and an attempt to terrorise his collaborators, and he framed the issue as a matter of freedom of expression and transparency.
