Cyprus police launch island‑wide operation, arrest up to eight, seize 22 vehicles

The Cyprus Police carried out coordinated night patrols across the island, targeting hotspots in urban areas to deter serious crime and maintain public order. The operation resulted in the arrest of six to eight individuals for offenses including illegal residence, drug possession, assault, and traffic violations.

Police stopped and inspected roughly 511‑595 vehicles, checking 652‑784 drivers and passengers, and seized 22 vehicles. Traffic checks generated 261‑370 complaints, with dozens involving excessive speed. Alcohol testing identified about 30 positive drivers, and drug tests yielded a small number of positive results.

Authorities said the intensive checks and arrests are part of an ongoing effort to increase safety and will continue with daily, targeted enforcement actions throughout Cyprus.
