Cyprus Police Ramp Up Traffic Checks for August 15 Holiday
The Cyprus Police are in full readiness for the three‑day August 15 holiday, deploying intensive road checks as vehicle traffic is expected to rise on highways and routes to mountainous and coastal areas. Police communications officer Michalis Michael said daily traffic inspections will target serious violations, including excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to wear seat‑belts or helmets, and the use of mobile phones while driving. These checks are part of the Europe‑wide Roadpol campaign, which runs from 3 August to 9 August and focuses on speeding but also addresses other dangerous behaviours. Police have prepared action plans and will remain on the roads throughout the period, urging drivers to exercise extra caution, especially on major routes to popular holiday destinations.
