Cyprus police warn of telephone fraud scams targeting bank accounts

The Cyprus Police have received multiple complaints about telephone fraud in which callers impersonate financial transaction platforms or other organisations. The scammers use either local or foreign numbers and automated voice prompts to instruct victims to press specific keypad numbers, claiming they must approve alleged transactions or payments. The goal is to steal personal data and withdraw money from victims’ bank accounts. Police advise the public to treat any such calls as fraudulent, to verify any pending online transactions only through official channels, and to confirm the authenticity of any request before proceeding with a payment.

Authorities stress that even if a transaction is expected, citizens should always double‑check with the relevant institution using known contact details rather than following instructions given over the phone.
