Cyprus President announces new housing scheme for mountain communities

President Nicos Christodoulides has announced that the Cypriot government will launch a new housing scheme in the coming days, specifically tailored to the needs of mountainous communities. Speaking at an awards ceremony for high-achieving students in the Troodos Presidential Residence, the President emphasized that housing remains one of the greatest challenges for young people and families in Cyprus and across Europe.

The new initiative was developed by the Commissioner for Mountainous Communities in collaboration with the Minister of Interior, following an assessment of local needs and expectations. This follows recent Cabinet decisions involving the granting of 570 state plots at a 75% discount and incentives for families to utilize existing housing or land to meet the needs of family members.

Since taking office, the administration has announced over ten housing schemes with investments exceeding €300 million, with more than 5,500 new residential units currently in development. A long-term goal of the government is to double the population of the mountainous regions and Tylliria communities from approximately 32,000 to 64,000 residents over the next decade.
