Cyprus President Christodoulides announces summer talks on the island’s division

President Nicos Christodoulides said that further developments on the Cyprus issue will be announced this summer, stressing that the announcements will come from the parties directly involved. He referred to an informal five‑member meeting planned for the season and warned that the island will remain under close watch.

Opposition leader Odysseas Michailidis echoed the urgency, calling the current window of opportunity possibly the last for substantive progress. He urged realistic, EU‑backed steps, warned against any settlement that breaches UN resolutions, and highlighted Turkey’s continued push for a two‑state solution. Michailidis stressed that any future agreement must guarantee a sovereign, functional, European Cyprus without occupying forces or external guarantees.
