Cyprus President Christodoulides backs residents' demand to remove AEK power line poles

President Nikos Christodoulides attended the laying‑foundation ceremony for the KOG project in Upper Polemidia, Limassol, where local residents staged a protest over the planned installation of AEK power‑line poles in their neighbourhood. He described the residents’ request to remove the poles as “justified”, said he had spoken directly with AEK, and confirmed a follow‑up meeting with the mayor and the community scheduled for Friday.

Christodoulides also reaffirmed Cyprus’s ongoing push for an expanded conference on the Cyprus issue, noting the involvement of the UN Secretary‑General, the European Union and recent talks with the Turkish Cypriot leader and a meeting in Brussels. He declined to comment on the Turkish leader’s statements and emphasized that security matters remain confidential while state services work daily to protect citizens.
