Cyprus President Christodoulides pushes pension reform amid political criticism
President Nikos Christodoulides announced a meeting with the labour and finance ministers to finalise a pension‑reform bill that promises pension increases ranging from 5% to 55% and extra income of €250‑300 per month. The government aims to pass the draft law by the end of the week, estimating the fiscal cost at tens of millions of euros.
The opposition Democratic Rally (DISY) criticised the president, saying he hides behind the parliament and parties to avoid responsibility for the government's shortcomings. DISY called for the withdrawal of the pension bill and highlighted other issues such as water management, electricity costs, wildfires and large public projects.
