Cyprus President Christodoulides says reunification talks remain active

Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides told reporters that negotiations on the island’s reunification have not frozen and that diplomatic work is continuing. He said the personal envoy of the UN Secretary‑General, Maria Anhela Olgkin, will travel to Brussels on 13 July, where a broad conference is being prepared that could announce the restart of talks. Christodoulides described the situation as a “critical moment,” noting ongoing contacts with the United Nations, the European Union and Turkey, and emphasising the aim of achieving a positive outcome that reconnects the Cyprus issue with wider EU‑Turkey relations.

The president rejected claims that the process has stalled, pointing to active discussions in Brussels and New York and underscoring that the next step is to move from informal exchanges to a formal announcement of renewed negotiations.
