Cyprus President Erhürman and Greek Cypriot Leader Schedule Aug 26 Talks Amid Timing Dispute

The Milli Mücadele Vakfı delegation met President Tufan Erhürman and presented a detailed paper outlining the Turkish Cypriot side’s red lines for any settlement. The document stressed that the sovereignty, security and future of the Turkish Cypriot community must be guaranteed, that Turkey’s guarantee and the presence of Turkish troops on the island are non‑negotiable, and that any talks must not compromise the Republic of Northern Cyprus’s status.

At the same time, the Alithia newspaper highlighted a discrepancy between Erhürman’s claim of being ready to negotiate immediately after UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres left Cyprus and the agreed meeting date with Greek Cypriot President Nikos Hristodulidis, set for 26 August – roughly four weeks later. Greek officials also said they were prepared for an expanded conference, raising questions about the pace of pre‑meeting preparations and the substantive issues that will remain open until the leaders meet.
