Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides pledges continued dialogue on reunification
President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, chaired the first meeting of the newly composed National Council, briefing members on recent developments in the Cyprus reunification process. He referenced two recent meetings with UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres, discussions with the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, and ongoing contacts with the UN envoy Maria Olcín.
Christodoulides affirmed that the resignation of the British Prime Minister will not affect the negotiations, stating, "όχι, σε καμία απολύτως περίπτωση δεν επηρεάζει την εν εξελίξει προσπάθεια" (no, in no case does it affect the ongoing effort). He highlighted the continued use of diplomatic windows and UN initiatives to restart talks and reiterated the goal of restoring the island’s unity.
The President also noted upcoming engagements with the UN personal envoy and the expectation of further meetings of the National Council to exchange views following future diplomatic contacts.
