Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides pledges reunification, refuses to be 'President of division
President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, told an anti‑occupation gathering of the Ammohostos municipality in Nicosia that ending the occupation and reuniting the island are realistic goals, not utopias. He highlighted the suffering of the occupied cities and villages and expressed gratitude to those who fought for the Republic’s legitimacy and freedom.
Christodoulides said he is a realist willing to negotiate and compromise, but will not sign any settlement that would create a lasting division. He called for a solution compatible with Cyprus’s status as an EU member and noted the recent visit of the United Nations Secretary‑General, the first in 16 years, as evidence of international commitment to finding a settlement.
