Cyril Ramaphosa extends Madlanga Commission inquiry to November 2026

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced an extension of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, pushing the final report deadline to 16 November 2026 and allowing hearings to continue until 2 October 2026. The Presidency said the extra time is needed to hear all evidence covered by the commission’s terms of reference and to avoid leaving parts of its work unfinished.

The Economic Freedom Fighters welcomed the extension but criticised the Presidency for a lack of transparency, demanding the immediate publication of the commission’s first and second interim reports. The commission, established in September 2025 after allegations of political interference in the KwaZulu‑Natal police, is probing alleged police corruption and has already led to several arrests.
