Czech and Slovak drivers risk heavy fines without electronic toll stickers

In the Czech Republic, cameras on toll plazas will not issue a penalty if a driver purchases an e‑vignette before midnight, but a police stop requires the sticker to be active at the moment of inspection. Drivers caught without a valid sticker can receive an on‑the‑spot block fine of up to €200 (approximately 4,830 CZK) or, if the case goes to administrative proceedings, a fine of up to €500 (about 12,000 CZK). Summer patrols at border crossings such as Čunovo, Milhosť and Jarovce–Kittsee have inspected thousands of vehicles, issuing fines to roughly 1 % of those checked.

A separate guide warns travellers in Slovakia and neighboring countries to purchase electronic toll stickers only from official road‑authority websites. Third‑party intermediaries often add high service fees, and some may charge recurring payments. Official portals listed include eznamka.sk for Slovakia, edalnice.gov.cz for the Czech Republic, as well as national sites for Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Romania. Buying directly from these sources avoids inflated prices and potential fraud.
