Czech Republic traffic safety and enforcement

Overview

Throughout mid-to-late 2026, Czech authorities have intensified traffic enforcement through technological upgrades, targeted crackdowns, and large-scale preventive operations.

Automated systems are expanding; Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav issued a tender for the rental of up to 30 speed measurement systems under a framework agreement worth up to 273 million CZK. In Jedovnice, officials are considering section speed enforcement on Jiráskova Street after studies showed 45 percent of vehicles exceeded the 50 km/h limit.

Enforcement has also targeted specific vehicle categories. In July, a joint action in Kladno with the electric-vehicle association BESIP focused on e-scooters. In Prague, routine checks on e-bikes and e-scooters identified devices capable of 60 km/h, which are treated as motorcycles carrying penalties of 4,000–10,000 CZK.

Heavy vehicle compliance remains a priority. Following drone monitoring on the D1 highway, police conducted a ‘Truck Day’ operation on the D8 highway in the Ústí nad Labem Region. During this large-scale inspection, officers stopped 112 trucks and inspected 174 individuals. The operation resulted in 14 offenses, including illegal overtaking and a serious case of a truck reversing directly on the highway, totaling 62,500 CZK in fines. The event also featured practical demonstrations, such as crash simulators and first aid training.

Individual high-risk incidents continue to be intercepted. In Hodonín, police stopped a driver on Brněnská Street who was operating a vehicle without a license while under an active driving ban. The individual, who admitted to consuming twelve 12-degree beers and four rums, recorded an alcohol concentration of 1.38 per mille and faces up to three years in prison.
