Czech senior care costs rise as homes and insurance become pricier

A new senior‑care complex is being built on Noppova Street in Brno at a cost of nearly one billion Czech crowns, expanding capacity from 200 to 400 places. The project illustrates the growing demand for institutional care as the population ages.

The Association of Social Service Providers warns that demographic ageing will add about 20 000 users of residential care every five years. Current state limits cover up to 335 CZK per day for a shared room (380 CZK for a single room) and 290 CZK for meals, which many argue fall short of real costs. Providers suggest families may need to contribute an additional thousand crowns per month.

Separately, travel insurance for seniors over 65 in the Czech Republic is markedly more expensive than for younger travellers. Premiums can be up to seven times higher, especially for exotic destinations, and insurers often impose lower coverage limits for property loss and third‑party damage.
