Czech charitable initiatives address rising costs for families
Charitable organizations in the Czech Republic are seeing increased demand as rising costs impact families living in poverty or facing financial instability.
The 'Krabice od bot' (Box from Shoes) initiative, now in its sixteenth year, has grown from a regional project into the largest national collection of Christmas gifts for children from families at risk of poverty. Volunteers and organizations like Diakonie facilitate the distribution of gift boxes to children, many of whom belong to single-parent households struggling to afford basic necessities.
Simultaneously, the rising cost of extracurricular activities has prompted the 'Darujme kroužky dětem' (Give Clubs to Children) project, overseen by the Czech Council of Children and Youth, to expand its support. The project has seen a significant increase in applicants, with the number of children supported rising by approximately 40 percent over two years. According to data from the organization, single parents are the most frequent group seeking assistance. Additionally, research indicates that over 60 percent of parents have experienced price increases for children's clubs, leading some to consider limiting these activities.
