Czech cities expand road reconstruction, imposing traffic restrictions

Olomouc continues extensive road work this season. The main project is the reconstruction of Stupková Street, scheduled to finish by the end of August 2026, with upgrades for pedestrians and cyclists, including raised intersections and sidewalk repairs. Additional closures affect the Erenburgova‑Pražská junction, with the intersection to be closed until September 2026 and traffic rerouted via Míru and Šibeníku, and a four‑phase overhaul of the 680‑metre stretch of Kapitána Jaroše Street.

In Prague, the Kbelská Street, a key part of the unfinished northern ring road, will be closed from the night of 1–2 July for a 45‑day intensive rebuild. Work proceeds 24 hours a day, creating a “virtual tunnel” that allows traffic only from the D8 to the D10 motorway. The lane configuration will be reduced to a single lane per direction, and about 46 000 vehicles per day will be affected. Similar large‑scale repairs are planned on major highways D1, D5 and D8 across the country, adding to the nationwide traffic disruptions this summer.
