Czech cities Ostrava and Olomouc suspend tram services for modernization works

In Ostrava, the municipal transport operator began a six‑week modernization of the Vítkovická tram line on 3 August. Lines 1, 2 and 13 are diverted, while lines 10 and 11 are temporarily halted. Replacement buses will serve the affected routes and the project, costing about 145 million CZK and co‑financed by the European Union, includes new track, reduced vibration and upgraded stations.

In Olomouc, a three‑week tram outage is scheduled from 9 August to 31 August around the main railway station. The work involves replacing four switches and track on the Fibichova loop. Several tram lines will run under temporary X‑designations with buses covering the closed sections, affecting routes to the city centre and surrounding districts.

Both cities aim to improve reliability and accessibility of their tram networks, with temporary service changes communicated to passengers.
