Czech transport upgrades in Ostrava

In early August 2026 the Czech Republic launched a series of large‑scale transport improvements in Ostrava. On 2 August the municipal operator began a six‑week modernization of the Vítkovická tram line, diverting lines 1, 2 and 13 and halting lines 10 and 11 while replacement buses serve affected routes. The EU‑co‑financed project, costing about 145 million CZK, will install new track, reduce vibration and upgrade stations to boost tram reliability.

The next day, the Czech Road and Motorway Directorate announced a 20‑day resurfacing of a six‑kilometre stretch of Rudná Street, the busiest first‑class road in the Moravian‑Silesian region. The 155 million CZK works will keep one lane per direction open, give priority to buses and emergency vehicles, and employ continuous shifts to limit disruption. The new surface is expected to last 16‑18 years.

Both initiatives reflect a coordinated effort to modernize Ostrava’s transport infrastructure, targeting both rail and road networks to improve long‑term reliability and capacity.
