Czech cities prepare celebrations for Czechoslovak independence anniversary
Several Czech cities are organizing commemorative events to mark the 108th anniversary of the founding of independent Czechoslovakia on October 28.
In Přerov, the commemoration will include a concert by the Haná Brass Orchestra, an official ceremony at T. G. Masaryk Square, and a lantern procession led by volunteer firefighters. The city's history with the independence movement is highlighted by local records of demonstrations and the rapid adoption of Czechoslovak symbols following the 1918 announcement.
Plzeň will host a wide-ranging program featuring guided tours of historical buildings, museums, and gardens, many with free or discounted admission. The celebrations will culminate in a 'Procession of Lights' and a 3D light symphony at Republic Square. Due to the expected crowds, Plzeň will implement significant traffic restrictions, including road closures and parking bans in the city center and around T. G. Masaryk Square.
