Czech cities push ahead with major railway infrastructure upgrades

A recent survey of Brno residents identified the construction of a new main railway station as the top spending priority, receiving support from 52.3% of respondents. The large city loop was the second‑most favored project at 44.7%, while proposals such as a new football stadium and the Ignis Brunensis fireworks show attracted less enthusiasm. City transport councillor Petr Kratochvíl noted that no tender has yet been issued for the station project.

In Prague, a public poll organized by Správa železnic determined that an arched design for the new Libeň railway bridge won with 56% of votes. The same poll showed that a sports facility beneath the bridge was the preferred use of the space, receiving 62% support. The bridge, part of a larger rail‑track modernization costing about CZK 2.5 billion, will include double‑tracking, noise reduction measures, and faster freight movement. Architectural studies are to be completed by the end of 2026, with construction slated for the early 2030s and an expected three‑year duration.
