Overview

Since May 2026 Prague launched the express tunnel‑bus 145 and Leo Express secured approval for a Prague‑Plzeň service, while the government announced long‑distance corridors to Munich and a 320 km/h Prague‑Brno‑Bratislava line. In June the Masaryk‑Bubny segment closed for modernisation, Leo Express joined Rail Europe, and Czech Rail piloted international routes such as a Prague‑Copenhagen test and seasonal Adriatic Express trains. A low‑cost Frankfurt‑Prague‑Przemyśl corridor opened, supported by a multimodal terminal in Jihlava, a €1.66 bn upgrade permit for Kolín‑Kutná Hora and a CZK 7.99 bn modernisation of the Veselí‑České Velenice line. The Central Bohemian 2050 strategy added a new Prague‑Beroun tunnel and a second Prague‑Úhříněves‑Bystřice line. July saw ČD schedule maintenance on Kolín‑Pardubice, introduce discounted tickets, seasonal cross‑border buses in South Bohemia and a summer heritage programme on the Krkonošské line. Czech Rail withdrew fast‑train sets on Třebíč‑Brno, a Brno poll favoured a new main station, and Prague voters approved an arched Libeň bridge with a sports facility. Slovak Railway unveiled a cultural carriage on its Ex Tatran service and held family events at Ružomberok; the historic Kolešovka line offered a special steam ride on 22 August. On 31 July Leo Express began a direct Przemyśl‑Prague‑Frankfurt train and later added a night‑sleeper with air‑conditioned couchettes, Wi‑Fi and power sockets (fares from €37.9). Starting 13 December 2026 Leo Express will replace Czech Railways on the Ex36 line, operating seven daily Plzeň‑Domažlice‑Munich trains with modernised Express coaches, air‑conditioning, high‑speed internet, audiovisual passenger information, selective‑door opening and onboard catering. The operator is finalising approvals with Czech and German authorities, opening ticket counters at Plzeň and Domažlice and recruiting crew.
