Czech court sentences man to 11 years for attempted murder of grandmother

The Olomouc High Court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to 11 years and 10 months in prison for the attempted murder of his nearly 80-year-old grandmother. The incident occurred last November when the man, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, physically assaulted the woman following a dispute over money.

During the attack, the perpetrator caused facial fractures to the victim and attempted to throw her out of a ninth-floor window. The woman managed to prevent a fatal fall by holding onto a radiator until a friend of the attacker intervened. Prosecutors noted that the victim had been providing the man with food and shelter despite his history of verbal abuse and drug use.
