Czech D11 highway construction continues amid extreme heat

Work on the D11 motorway near the Czech‑Polish border is progressing despite temperatures that push asphalt mix to about 170 °C. Contractors from MI Roads process up to 1,500 t of compacted aggregate and a further 1,500 t of hot asphalt each day, while enforcing water breaks, hydration and shift rotations for worker safety.

Around 1,000 workers and 500‑600 pieces of machinery are active on the project, which also includes the building of six bridges, grade‑separated interchanges and drainage works. Geological challenges and slower‑than‑expected settlement of embankments earlier delayed the link to Poland’s S3 expressway, but the issue has been resolved.

The three‑kilometre section at the border is now slated for completion by the end of November 2026, with the overall D11 segment expected to open on 30 November 2026.
