Czech D35 highway segment between Ostrov and Vysoké Mýto opens early on Aug. 21

The Czech Republic's road authority (ŘSD) opened the Ostrov‑Vysoké Mýto section of the D35 motorway three days ahead of schedule, on 21 August. The early opening follows a public “Open‑Highway Day” that attracted thousands of drivers. The 900‑metre tunnel at Homole, which was planned for a later phase, will remain closed until summer 2025, but the rest of the newly completed carriageway is now operational. The new segment provides a direct link between Liberec, Hradec Králové and Olomouc, serving as a northern alternative to the overloaded D1 and eliminating the previous detour via a temporary bypass. Six bridges were built on the stretch, and traffic can now exit at a new signalised junction near Hrušová.

The opening reduces congestion on the I/35 corridor and improves regional connectivity while the tunnel construction continues.
